Caring for your silk piece: care, washing, ironing and precautions.

Silk is a fragile material that needs to be cared for to maintain its shine and lustre. Today, we reveal the secrets of caring for your silk carré scarves: from care tips to ironing, washing and precautions.

1. Taking care of your silk piece

Avoid contact with rain, which can damage your square. Indeed, isolated
drops can create halos as they dry.
Chemical products and substances containing alcohol are not recommended. Make sure that no perfume, cologne, deodorant or alcoholic beverages come into contact with your silk piece, as they can discolor it. When applying perfume, allow it to dry on your skin before putting on your scarf.

2. Careful storage

Store your piece flat in a box or folded in half on a wooden or plastic hanger. As with cashmere and other natural materials, moths are attracted to silk. Put your carré scarves in a dry place and place a sachet of lavender or cedar on top.

3. Washing your silk

At Petitjean Paris, we recommend dry-cleaning your silk or entrusting it to a professional. Warning: ban bleach and washing powders. Silk is a natural fiber and cannot tolerate the use of bleaching agents, which can damage the fibers of this delicate material. If in doubt, leave it to a professional.

4. Refresh your silk piece

If your silk carré scarf is stained, we recommend that you take it to a professional. However, you can refresh your silk piece at home from time to time, by rinsing it gently in cold water.

STEP 1 // WASH WITH COLD WATER

Do not soak silk before washing. Prepare a small amount of soapy water (neutral, fragrance-free Marseille soap), or diluted with a little special silk detergent. Soak your silk for a few minutes, stirring gently by hand, before rinsing gently with clean water. Don't be surprised if the fabric runs a little, especially if your scarf is
brightly colored.
Please note: cold water is preferable, as warm and hot water can damage the fabric.

STEP 2 // RINSE

To spin, blot the damp silk between two clean, dry towels, then gently squeeze several times.

STEP 3 // DRY

To dry, lay flat at room temperature to avoid warping. We recommend drying on a towel to avoid marks from the drying rack.
Caution: Do not lay your silk piece folded in half on a clothesline. Also avoid exposure to sunlight, which can cause discoloration, proximity to a radiator or the use of stain-removing products. Finally, do not use a tumble dryer.

5. Ironing your silk scarf

Iron your silk c inarré scarf on the wrong side to preserve its shine and avoid iron marks. Set your iron to a low temperature (120 or 130°) or to the "silk" program. Ideally, use a damp cloth between your silk and the soleplate of your iron.

6. Machine wash?

Avoid machine-washing your silk at all costs, as this can cause it to lose its sheen, damage the weave by pulling threads, and spinning too quickly can permanently damage the fabric.

It's your turn!
