Episode 2: Skin tone and undertone.

Different shades and skin tones

Skin color, also known as skin tone, plays an essential role in the choice of clothing, make-up and jewelry. There are light, medium and dark complexions.

Knowing what makes you stand out depends not only on your visible skin tone (light, medium, dark), but also on what's called the undertone. This is the natural, permanent shade that lies beneath the skin's surface. Unlike skin tone, which can change (by tanning, for example), the undertone always remains the same. It's what influences the way certain colors "work" on you.

There are three main families of subtones:

  • Cold, pinkish or bluish.

  • Warm, with shades of gold, yellow or peach.

  • Neutrals, a subtle blend of both.

💡 How do you know what your undertone is?

Here are a few simple clues:

  • Your veins: look at your wrist under natural light. If your veins look blue or purple, you probably have a cool undertone. If they look green, your undertone is probably warm.

  • Jewelry: does yellow gold flatter you? You're probably in the warm tones. If it's silver or white gold that lights you up, you're probably cool. Do both suit you? You're neutral.

Which silk scarf colors to wear according to your skin tone and undertone?

💫 Light skin tone

Light skins are luminous and delicate, but can sometimes appear dull if we choose tones that are too neutral or too close to the skin color. The aim is to create soft contrast.

  • Cool undertones: Cool colors like sky blue, powder pink or lavender bring out your skin's radiance. You can also turn to a navy or royal blue scarf, which will contrast nicely with your complexion.
Our selection: our Mistral or Sunsetprints , which combine pale, cool colors with brighter ones, bringing intensity and contrast, while retaining a little softness, or our Forêt print, which contrasts very elegantly on fair skin.

  • Warm undertones: Warm, soft shades like peach, coral or camel look great on this skin tone. A scarf in caramel-brown or an orange scarf will give you an elegant complexion. These warm shades add a touch of light without aggressing fair skin.
Our selection: our L'Herbarium pink scarf, with its rosy peach base, and our Mistral terracotta print, with its combination of navy and terracotta, are ideal for a pale complexion with a warm undertone.

💫 Carnation medium

Medium skins are often very versatile, especially if they have a neutral undertone.

  • Cool undertone: Silk scarves in intense colors like plum, royal blue or emerald.
Our selection: our Pas de Deux and Massalia outremer scarves, with their blue details, and our Herbarium green print, with its intense green background.

  • Warm undertones: Deep, earthy tones such as terracotta, khaki, mustard yellow, brown, red or burgundy bring out the skin's natural gold. Copper and gold tones are ideal for accessories to bring warmth and radiance.
Our selection: our Soleil d'Automne and Mistral Terracottaprints, in deep, warm hues.

💫 Dark complexion

Dark or very dark skins are often radiant and deep. They tolerate bright, rich, contrasting colors very well. You just have to be careful not to "break" the radiance of the complexion with tones that are too dull, but certain pale colors can particularly stand out on black skin.

  • Cool undertone: Powerful scarf colors such as midnight blue, magenta, violet, navy blue or raspberry enhance the depth of the complexion. Light, cool shades like pale pink, light blue or white add a luminous, elegant touch.
Our selection: our Enchanted Wood, Winter garden chocolate and Night Sun prints, which combine rich, deep hues .

  • Warm undertones: Warm, vibrant shades such as copper, orange, caramel or brown reveal the full richness of the skin.
Our selection: our orange Massalia scarf, with its bright colors, or our Winter garden moka print, which enhances dark complexions with its cameo of browns .

💡 And if you're in between?

If you have a neutral undertone, you're in luck: almost any color can suit you, as long as you strike the right balance. The key is to avoid extremes that are too cold or too warm. Prefer "natural" colors like burgundy, forêt green, navy blue or old rose.

✨ Summary

Knowing your skin tone and, above all, your undertone is the basis for choosing the right colors, whether for fashion or make-up. Rather than following trends, the idea is to compose with what suits you naturally, to reveal your beauty effortlessly.
