Episode 1: Contrast.
Knowing your natural contrast is an essential step to knowing which colors best suit you. But what exactly are we talking about?
💫 Determining your contrast
The contrast refers to the difference in visual intensity between your hair, your skin, and your eyes. Based on this natural opposition, three profiles are distinguished: high, medium, or soft contrast.
-
If your hair and/or eyes are dark and your skin is very fair (or vice versa), you have high contrast — like Sophie Marceau or Leïla Bekhti.
-
If the differences are moderate, you have medium contrast. Look at Audrey Fleurot or Noémie Lenoir.
- If the skin, hair, and eyes are similar in intensity (e.g., ash blonde, fair skin, gray eyes), you probably have soft contrast. Think of Vanessa Paradis or Mélanie Laurent.
💡 Simple tip: take a black and white photo of your face, without makeup, under natural light. Observe the level of contrast between your features.
💫 Once the contrast is identified, what scarf colors should you choose?
Contrast helps choose a scarf with shades that naturally draw light to your face. The idea is not to confine you to a color palette, but to know how to adapt the shades to your desired effect.
💡If you like to play with contrasts different from your natural contrast, remember to rebalance the overall look with harmonious makeup.
-
Respect your contrast, to highlight your natural beauty.
Here, our model has a medium contrast. Her skin and eyes are light, but her hair is darker, without being very dark. She wears a Lavalline Pas de Deux, of medium intensity, which naturally enhances her face. The effect works even better because the leaves recall the blue of her eyes and her orange makeup echoes the little foxes.
-
Strengthen your contrast for a bold and structured look.
Here, our model has low contrast: pale skin, light eyes, blonde hair. She wears a Bracelet Forêt, a dark blue scarf, which brings a very strong intensity, structuring her outfit. Why does it work? Thanks to very soft makeup, which enhances the low contrast of her face and balances the whole.
-
Soften your contrast for a softer and more poetic result.
Here, our model has high contrast: green eyes, fair skin, and brown hair. She wears a Gavroche L'Herbier Rose, whose powdery pink background and slightly brighter flowers bring a medium intensity, which softens her look. The trick: a strong pink lipstick to balance the contrasts and enhance the natural intensity of her face.
