Episode 2: Complexion and Undertone.
The different undertones and complexions
Skin color, also known as complexion, plays an essential role in choosing clothes, makeup, or jewelry. Complexions are divided into light, medium, and dark.
Knowing what suits you best depends not only on the visible shade of your skin (light, medium, dark) but also on what is called your undertone. It is the natural and permanent hue that lies beneath the surface of your skin. Unlike complexion, which can change (for example, by tanning), your undertone always remains the same. It influences how certain colors "work" or don't work for you.
There are three main families of undertones:
-
Cool, with pink or blue tendencies.
-
Warm, with golden, yellow, or peach nuances.
-
Neutral, a subtle mix of both.
💡 How to find out your undertone?
A few simple clues can guide you:
-
Your veins: Observe your wrist in natural light. If your veins appear blue or purple, you likely have a cool undertone. If they are more green, your undertone is probably warm.
-
Jewelry: Does yellow gold flatter you more? You are likely in the warm tones. If it's silver or white gold that brightens you, you are probably cool. Both look good on you? You are neutral.
Which silk scarf colors to wear according to your complexion and undertone?
💫 Light complexion
Light skin tones are luminous and delicate but can sometimes appear dull if you choose tones that are too neutral or too close to the skin color. The goal is to create a gentle contrast.
-
Cool undertone: Fresh colors like sky blue, powder pink, or lavender enhance the skin's radiance. You can also opt for a navy blue or royal blue scarf, which will beautifully contrast with your complexion.
Our selection: our Mistral or Au Coucher prints, which combine pale and cool colors with brighter ones, adding intensity and contrast while maintaining some softness, or our Forêt print, which contrasts very elegantly on light skin. -
Warm undertone: Warm and soft shades like peach, coral, or camel are very beautiful on this type of complexion. Choose a scarf with caramel brown shades or an orange scarf to elegantly highlight your complexion. These warm shades bring a touch of light without overwhelming light skin.
Our selection: our L'Herbier rose scarf, with its rosy peach background, and our Mistral terracotta print, with its combination of navy and terracotta, are ideal for a pale complexion with a warm undertone.
💫 Medium complexion
Medium skin tones are often very versatile, especially if they have a neutral undertone.
-
Cool undertone: Opt for silk scarves in intense colors, such as plum, royal blue, or emerald.
Our selection: our Pas de Deux, and Massalia outremer scarves, with their blue details, and our Herbier vert print, with its intense green background. -
Warm undertone: Deep, earthy shades like terracotta, khaki, mustard yellow, brown, red, or burgundy bring out the natural golden tones of the skin. Copper and gold tones are best for accessories to add warmth and radiance.
Our selection: our Soleil d'Automne and Mistral Terracotta prints, with their warm and deep shades.
💫 Dark complexion
Dark or very dark skin tones are often radiant and deep. They handle bright, rich, and contrasting colors very well. You just need to be careful not to "break" the radiance of the complexion with overly dull tones, but some pale colors can particularly stand out on dark skin.
-
Cool undertone: Powerful scarf colors like midnight blue, magenta, purple, navy blue, or raspberry enhance the depth of the complexion. Light and cool shades like pale pink, light blue, or white add a luminous and elegant touch.
Our selection: our Bois Enchanté, Jardin d'hiver chocolat and Soleil de Nuit prints, which combine rich and deep shades. -
Warm undertone: Warm and vibrant shades like copper, orange, caramel, or brown reveal the full richness of the skin.
Our selection: our Massalia orange scarf, with its bright colors, or our Jardin d'Hiver moka print, which enhances dark complexions with its range of browns.
💡 What if you're in between?
If you have a neutral undertone, you are lucky: almost all colors can suit you, provided you maintain a good balance. The key is to avoid extreme cool or warm tones. Prefer "natural" colors like burgundy, forest green, navy blue, or old rose.
✨ In summary
Knowing your complexion and especially your undertone is fundamental for choosing your colors well, whether in fashion or makeup. Rather than following trends, the idea is to work with what suits you naturally to reveal your beauty effortlessly.
