Embodying French culture: tales of our silk squares

The silk square is a symbol of French savoir-faire and the French art of living. At Petitjean Paris, our silk square patterns also tell the story of French landscapes and culture. Today, we reveal the Parisian, Provençal and Jura inspirations behind our poetic designs.

Lyon's silk tradition

Before we take you on a tour of France, let's take a detour to Lyon, the capital of French silk. Lyonnais silk is one of France's oldest crafts. Silk squares, or silk scarves, are an integral part of the heritage of this know-how and of the artisanal heritage of French fashion. Silk squares are carefully printed and crafted, and are the fruit of know-how handed down from generation to generation for over 400 years. Lyonnais silk manufacturers have perfected silk weaving and printing techniques to create products of exceptional quality. Lyonnais silks were once considered the most luxurious in the world, and have clothed the greatest figures in history since Louis XIV.

The origins of the Maison lie in Jura

The Jura region of eastern France is famous for its wild landscapes, populated by lakes and waterfalls. Our first signature collection, les Jurassiennes, is a tribute to its fir forests and wildlife. In particular, our Pas de Deux motif recounts the ballet of foxes in the Jura forest.

Our Provencal tales

Our silk squares also reflect our founder's childhood memories of Provence. Fig trees, washerwomen, pink flamingos, dawns and twilights over lavender fields are inexhaustible sources of inspiration for our founder, who has dedicated several silk squares to them. These designs transport you to magical places and show you Provence as you've never seen it before.

Our Parisian tales

After Provence, the city of light, Paris. Our capital, home to our designer for many years, is also a major theater of inspiration for several collections. As the capital of fashion and elegance, with haute couture houses and world-renowned expertise, Paris inspired our Montmartre and Tuileries collections. Our Parisian designs feature the Lapin Agile cabaret, Montmartre's Maison Rose and the Tuileries garden and its orange groves. These motifs illustrate the wonders of the city with a bucolic, poetic twist.
